The Vocal Studio of Jessica Dey is a private voice studio with lessons being offered in Sewickley, PA, and at Carnegie Mellon University.  For over a decade, Jessica has specialized in teaching Musical Theatre, Pop/Rock, and Contemporary styles.

Jessica teaches students to use their natural voice healthily directed toward the type of music they enjoy singing in a positive and fun atmosphere.

Are you a younger singer who wants to learn to stand in front of others and sing out beautifully?  Wanting to strengthen your technique so you can sing higher, longer, and with more variety than you ever dreamt possible?  Even if you have always wanted to learn how to sing but have shied away from it... she can help.

Take the mystery out of singing, understanding how to control your physical instrument, and more importantly, how to free the artist within who is waiting to be heard.

ABOUT ME

Jessica holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Pennsylvania State University, where she specialized in contemporary and musical theatre vocal technique, and has completed graduate work in Musical Theatre Pedagogy at Rider University. A versatile and experienced performer, she has appeared professionally on stage, on screen, and in the recording studio. After more than a decade living and performing in New York City, she relocated to Lancaster, PA, where she co-founded Creative Pursuits Studio, a multidisciplinary performing arts space, and subsequently established Creative Pursuits Academy, a non-profit performing arts school. Jessica began her teaching career in 2012 and has remained deeply engaged in voice pedagogy and musical theatre education ever since. She presently serves as Interim Director of Special Music Programs at Carnegie Mellon University, where she leads the university’s K–12 Music Preparatory School and Music Extension Program. In this role, she oversees all aspects of the K–12 community music education program, where she also founded the Preparatory School’s vocal program, and directs a team of instructors and staff serving students across the greater Pittsburgh region. Jessica also teaches applied voice through CMU’s College of Music Extension Program, working with college students and adult learners, and is a member of the voice faculty for the Musical Theatre program at Slippery Rock University. A college professor for the past eight years, Jessica previously served as a musical theatre voice professor in the Musical Theatre BFA program at Lancaster Bible College. As an educator, Jessica is dedicated to advancing evidence-based, sustainable vocal techniques that prepare singers to meet the diverse stylistic and physical demands of today’s evolving musical theatre industry. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes vocal health, technical versatility, and artistic authenticity. In addition to her university teaching, she maintains an active private voice studio, working with students of all ages and experience levels. Jessica is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association (AEA), the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the Musical Theatre Educators' Alliance (MTEA), and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA).

Testimonials

T

"Jessica has been a guiding light in my pursuit of a career in musical theater. She helped me choose appropriate college audition material, and coached my audition cuts. Without her understanding of the college audition process, and her knowledeagble advice as to how to best showcase myelf, I would not have gotten in to a school for musical theater. "

-Rebecca Goebel, Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a concentration in Musical Theatre at Temple University

"Jessica is a wonderful teacher, coach and person.  She is not only good at what she does, but is knowledgable about the current industry and how to help you succeed.  She helped me prep for my college auditions and because of her, I felt confident going into them and was accepted into a top university.  She is also wonderful at picking out material for her students depending on your casting type.  She will help you sing all different types of music and make sure you are as well rounded as you can be."
- Jessica Poje, Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a Musical Theatre Minor, Point Park University

The growth my daughter has gained in the past year with Jessica as her vocal coach has been amazing. She encourages, challenges, pushes and exhorts Zoe to grow and expand her vocal range. Jess has also helped prepare Zoe for auditions and works with her during her performances on stage. She makes it fun!

We cannot say enough great things about Jessica. If you or your child is looking for a vocal coach, I encourage you to work with Jess.
